Why powder coating?

Powder coating offers the most economical, longest lasting and most color-durable quality finishes available on most metals. Powder coated surfaces are highly resistant to chipping, scratching, fading and general wear than most other finishes. TLT Powder Coating can powder coat a variety of items such as wheels, rims, barbells or even medical equipment. The options are endless. Contact us for details and specifications.

How does powder coating work?

Powder coating is an innovative process of applying a dry powdered paint compound that melts and fuses together during the curing process to form a painted finish. This type of coating is applied at a thickness of 2 to 6 mils (or more) as compared to wet paint, which is applied at a thickness of .5 to 1 mils. The powder particles are electrostatically charged through an air-powered spray gun and then cured under high heat to form a protective “skin.” This creates a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint. Economically-friendly, powder coating doesn’t rely on solvents or chemical carriers like traditional wet paint systems. This process also relies on the electrostatic charge to hold the paint to the piece itself, so VOC emissions are eliminated.
